Your new format

Recommended Posts

Hello team,

I'm mostly happy with the new look and feel, though it took me a while to relearn how to navigate it.

I do have a few suggestions that I hope you find useful.

- I miss the sort-by feature on the search. I find it useful to sort by most recent login as those that logged in more recently are more active and more likely to reply to my messages in a timely fashion

- It would be nice if you used my profile address as the search-from address. I have to enter my zip code every time I log in and do a search. It's not a lot of work, but it seems unneccessary.

- The send message pane looks terrible on Chrome. The text box that you use to enter your message is very small and the font size for the text is outrageously large. As a result, I can only see a couple lines of my message at a time. Not at all a pleasant experience.

- I hate, hate, hate that you format the profiles by capitalizing every word. It is bad English, it is ugly and it is tacky. Please change that immediately.

I work in internet services myself and I am well aware of the time that it takes to perfect a site and make it wonderful for everyone. I think you've made a great effort, and with a few more steps I think it will be truly awesome. Congratulations.

1. I agree, last logged in should be there, we will work on that.

2. Why do you have to use your search from?  The locations are those nearest you based on your last location.  Can you tell me why you would need to enter anything?

3. Can you attach a screen shot of this so we can see what you are talking about as it does not appear that way on my Chrome.

4. I agree with the capital words.  I didn't see that before.  Is this only in the profile fields you are talking about?

Thank you for the feedback.  We will make some of the changes and looking forward to any other suggestions from you and other members.

Thanks for the reply!

I rescind #2. I had my profile set to San Francisco for some reason. Operator error.

I have included the screen shot. I'm running Chrome Version 64.0.3282.186. (I am due for an upgrade, but I'm working on my own web project and don't want to upset that yet.)

Thanks again for getting back to me and again, congratulations on the new look.

Ed

Okay, I've got another one for you. Sorry. :)

I wrote a fairly lengthy reply message to a boy that had written me and when I hit send, my session had expired and I lost my ten minutes or so of work.

Your session timeout seems very short to me. If I am still in browser, I can't understand why it would timeout in anything less than 24 hours. Industry standard is actually more like 2 weeks, even when you close the browser.

But more importantly, if you are going to time out while in the middle of your client writing a message, you need to provide a way to log back in that does not lose the message being written.

But then I'm just a picky user. :)

I am trying to navigate the new format and am reserving judgement whether I like it more than the former format until I have more experience with it. Meanwhile, I have noted the following: 1) although my location has been updated, my listing still shows me in a different county; 2) my profile photo has me decapitated.; and, 3) I miss not being able to search another state instead of distance from my location. When I attempted to search Wyoming, results were in random order spanning multiple states and foreign countries. Robert

1. We are working on this as we chat.

2. You can change your profile pic in My Account area  Go there and click the thumbnail at the top of that first page. It allows you to crop the photo as you wish.

3. The more narrow your search, the less results you will get. What were your search criteria?

Regarding search results, I just did more searches to get a better feel of why I am getting the results that I am. It appears that results are based on distance from the set location, which is logical. I wanted to search only Wyoming because I will be vacationing there, but another of my search criteria was "newest". Consequently I was getting newest regardless of location but based on distance from the location in Wyoming that the website selected, e.g., I set "Wyoming", but the website pinpointed a specific location within Wyoming (probably because the website needs an exact location to be able to report distance in the results). Thus, using newest, type houseboy, age 18-45, distance 500, escort no, HIV negative, types slim and athletic, and location Wyoming, the website pinpointed a range of street numbers in Arminto, WY. All of the results are within 500 miles but both within and beyond Wyoming, and in no particular order of distance. I was guessing that the order in the sequence is the houseboy's registration date, but that information is no longer being displayed. When I repeat the search but without specifying "newest", the results are in the order of distance, which negates my guess that the registration date is a factor. In conclusion I have two recommendations for changes: 1) display the registration date (I'd like to know how long ago the man registered), and 2) when I choose to set the search location, do not pre-display a location in Flushing, NY because every user not in Flushing will have to delete that and replace it with the location they want.

1. I agree with you and we will put this on profile area of each member.

2. I need more info on this as I don't understand what you are asking.

Regarding #2, when I select "set search location", a Google Map is displayed. Above the map is a field to enter my target location. That field is already populated with a specific address in Flushing, NY. What are the odds that is the user's target location--miniscule. To be able to enter my target location, I must first delete that Flushing address. If most users want to search a location other than Flushing, then all of those users must do the same thing, delete the address that already is in that field. Assuming that this is true for MOST users, then have that field initially be blank, not filled with any address. The same logic applies to the map view that is displayed when a user initially selects "set search location". It makes more sense to me for it to show a zoomed out view, such as the entire USA, or whichever country has the most users in Houseboy.com. That way the user can immediately click on a spot in the map view instead of entering a location in the field above the map. Thank you for agreeing to display the registration date.

it seems like you've further separated the forums from the main site so now i have two inboxes but there's no way to navigate back to the main site.

also, as has always been the case, if i see someone's username in the forum and want to search them, i get their forum profile which is useless and they can't be contacted.  and i can't find anymore how to search their regular profile where i can email them

OK.  I now see the issue. I think. I'll have programmers work on this.

The forums now open into a new window. Your original Houseboy window should still be open. The forum does NOT have the same profile information as it is a forum only and not a place that is often used for communication.  Copy the user name and go to main site to search them and contact them on the main site.

I tried sending a reply to someone in the message area, but it would only accept a few lines of text....not really enough to get to know someone or explain the arrangement. Interestingly, I was trying to reply to a rather long message, so somewhere along the way, it changed to limiting replies to a very short amount, although it seems to be storing longer messages in the back-end database.
